Weather forecasting

Weather forecasting and understanding is one of  THE TWO most important requirement for anyone on the water, whether sailing or powerboating. 

Here we’ve put together a small selection of the weather forecasting sites we use, or have found to be useful while on the water ourselves and with friends and colleagues. National forecasting sites which are country specific are also very useful (see the links on the destination pages).

Cruisers Wiki is a comprehensive general guide to boating around the world. Likewise, WorldAtlas is informative and interesting. Explore and enjoy them both for good advice, interesting reading and useful information.

Navigation and passage planning

In addition to understand weather forecasting, the other most important requirement for anyone on the water, whether sailing or powerboating, is planning where you are going, prior to venturing out on the water.

Where to go, knowing what land masses and obstacles lay ahead, and how you can navigate your passage safely must be a process which you are familiar with and which you can efficiently plan. These passage and navigation applications may be useful:
