Hanse Cup Adriatic 2018:
a mixed international regatta in Croatia

The Hanse Cup 2018 was held over 3 days, 21.4 – 25.4. 18.

The 28 teams gathered at Marina Kaštela on Saturday evening in front of the Croatia Yachting charter office for the regatta registration and skipper’s briefing made by the local Croatian race officer Allen. This regatta was open to all Hanse owners, charterers, Hanseadmirers along with the Hanse company crews that planned a great team building opportunity by competing against all the other teams taking part.

Sail Charter International had gathered 12 able hands to crew the 2 Hanse 455s over the 3 days, so I skippered “Jenny” with our clients: John, Tim, Helmut, Sergio and Fernando and Dominic skippered “Veni Vidi Vixi” (VVV) with our clients: Dave, Vadim, Bogdan, Luka and Jools. We were both confident with these 2 boats and a enthusiastic crews we would achieve respectable positions during the 3 days.

Sunday 22nd April

First Leg: Drvenik Veli –Šibenik:

On Sunday, the weather forecast was for light winds from the southeast shifting to the south west later, so a downwind start was the instruction from the race officer. No use of Gennikers before the start was agreed, so on the start line the fastest boats off the line were the ones that hoisted first and took the lead. At 18.00h all crews gathered for a group photos in front of St. Jacob Cathedral and then made a short walk up to St. Mihovil fortress for more photos from the drone. Dinner was served at restaurant Gradska Vijećnica the old town hall with entertainment by a DJ and saxophone player.

Second Leg Šibenik – Vodice:

The skipper briefing was made at the Šibenik water front where all boats were moored in perfect sunshine, the weather forecast for the day’s sailing was again for light winds from the south, so a new shorter course was proposed by the race officer to get the fleet in to Vodice on time. Dinner in Vodice was an impressive buffet at the Hotel Olympia along with the entertainment of show dancers who invited all the crews to join in the dancing and party games.
